New Space!!

Base Elements has moved! We are happy to announce that after nine years of serving our community in the  Barrio Gótico, we will continue to provide the neighborhood with a taste of local street art and artists, as well as artists from around the globe. We've got the same street style with a fresh space, closer to the heart the barrio gótico and just a beat away from city hall and parliament- Our new address is Carrer Palau 6. So stop by to check out our new updated look with the same base elements!

"Souvenirs Modernos from Barcelona"
Since last Thursday, the latest work of Michele Salati has been featured in Base Elements Gallery. Created with polyester resin and fiberglass, a life-size sculpture of a Pakistani immigrant selling cans of beer became the celebrity of the evening at Base Elements (not only because he was happily giving away free cervezas to amigas and patrons).

A very special thank you to everyone who visited Souvenirs Modernos and supported Michele and Base Elements! If you missed the event last Thursday you can still visit our Pakistani amigo up until August. If you have yet to purchase your Barcelona souvenir, there are miniature souvenirs (featured above) of the sculpture that are on sale at Base Elements.

Souvenirs Modernos from Barcelona

Un Souvenir es un objeto que guarda un recuerdo de un lugar y una vivencia. Los recuerdos a un lugar van marcados por el paisaje, la cultura y por ello también por sus personas. Las culturas y las ciudades son cambiantes y evolucionan en el tiempo. La imagen de una ciudad por consecuencia también está sumisa a una evolución constante. La arquitectura, los barrios, las costumbres y sobre todo también la gente cambia.

Los souvenir de la mayoría de ciudades en cambio suelen ser imágenes de clichés que existen como  idea, no como parte de la realidad. Muchos de ellos son símbolos lejanos a las experiencias reales en un lugar. 

El souvenir es uno de los temas centrales entorno al cual giran los trabajos artísticos de Michele Salati. En este último trabajo se concentra en la ciudad de Barcelona.

La imagen de esta ciudad ha cambiado mucho en los últimos años. Los procesos de la globalización, la inmigración y el turismo masivo han sido algunos de los factores que han hecho cambiar la imagen de la ciudad de forma considerable en las últimas dos décadas.

Michele Salati ha escogido justamente a la figura del Paquistaní que vende cerveza como figura emblemática de Barcelona. Con su creación de un monumento al Paquistaní en las calles de Barcelona y los souvenirs correspondientes, Michele Salati abre un diálogo sobre la vida y la integración de ciertos grupos de inmigrantes en la ciudad de Barcelona y da a reflexionar sobre la evolución de las ciudades y su cambio de imagen real.

We are going full in the gallery, tonight we have a show with Miguel Muñoz an amazing show maker. We are preparing the walls for tonight still not ready, all in progress, but just a pick of what is going to be tonight. And tomorrow Saturday another show with Tec and Piu.
