Street Art of a Revolution

Since the protesting began in Plaça Catalunya, the streets of Barcelona have been tagged, spray painted, and re-painted by demonstrators and artists calling for change.

Since opening its doors in 2003, Base Elements has functioned as a multi-faceted gallery- acting as both a workshop and studio- where space and forum collide.

There is no doubt that Barcelona is one of the world’s hubs for Graffiti and Street Art. The walls and buildings of the city have become a canvas for both unknown taggers and globally known urban artists. With the concept of providing a literal and figurative canvas for such independent artists, Robert Burt (California native) and his wife Monica Riu (Barcelona Native) founded Base Elements Urban Art Gallery in 2003 with hopes of creating a space where such street artists could not only showcase their talents, but also be embraced as true artists.

Current exhibiting artists include: Btoy, Pez, Kenor, Oriol, Zosen, Tom 14, Pezkhamino, Juan Pajares, Monix, Kram, Robert Burt, etc.

Desde que abrió sus puertas en 2003, Base Elements ha funcionado como una galería multifacética, desempeñando el papel de taller y galería; generando, creando, y exponiendo un pensamiento nuevo y un poco “contracultura”.

No cabe duda que Barcelona es uno de los centros más destacados para el arte urbano y grafiti. Las paredes y los edificios de la ciudad se han transformado en lienzos para los grafiteros y para los artistas más reconocidos internacionalmente. Con este concepto de proveer un lienzo literal y también figurativo para estos artistas emergentes, Robert Burt y su esposa Monica Riu fundaron en 2003 Base Elements Galería de Arte Urbano, un espacio donde artistas urbanos pueden exponer sus talentos y también ser aceptados
como artistas verdaderos.
